The project won the 2011 Stemmons Corridor Business Association Award for Best Adaptive Re-Use of an Existing Building and was a finalist in the Dallas Business Journal Best Real Estate Deals - Private Green Deal of the Year 2011.

Summary: Two 1970's era wood frame and masonry buildings are renovated to provide modern retail space adjacent to a new large mixed use development near AT&T Stadium.

Summary: This former coin operated laundry is now a modern boutique retail building with four tenants. Clerestories were added to increase the interior volume and to bring in natural light.

The original bearing wall was removed and a new storefront recessed to allow the required parking on this small site.

Preston Park II - Plano, Texas

Summary : In association with Alliance Architects, EBSA designed this office building to take advantage of the site and to provide 2 levels of 60,000 gsf of contiguous space. The modern entry and masonry detailing make this neighborhood office building a unique structure within the area.

Wellness International Headquarters - Plano, Texas

Summary : Located in Legacy, a corporate business park in Plano, Texas, this 2 level building was designed using both natural limestone panels and tilt-up concrete panels. The central glass vault encloses the main company gathering space and separates the two primary office and distribution operations.

Main public entry to the facility. The glass vault is a characteristic many of the corporate buildings within the Legacy development possess.

Eagle Parkway - Fort Worth, Texas

Summary : In association with Alliance Architects, EBSA designed this 2 level building to provide speculative office space within the Alliance Airport development of Fort Worth, Texas. The tilt-up concrete skin was used to match the surrounding structures. The unique shape and detailing of this building was a reaction to the site and the views to and from the building.

Summary : This architecture is designed as a four level, Class A office building with Texas Red granite skin, full height storefront windows and one level of private parking below. The unique shape was designed to increase the visibility from the large curve of Collins Boulevard on the southwest side. The recessed clad main entry structure is visible from US 75 North Central Expressway.

The angled facade adds space and increases the building visibility. The roof of this projection is an outdoor deck.

Dining Facility & Parking Garage - Thousand Oaks California

Client : Amgen, Inc.

Size: Site: 5.2 acres, Building 140,000 gsf

Summary : This multi-level mixed use facility, with views of the Sierra mountains, on the corporate campus encloses offices, a campus wide dining facility, a canyon level conference center and  a campus central plant. The design was conceived as a cellular divisional expansion with the primary functions oriented around a man-made canyon. The zoning height restrictions dictated utilizing the sub-level and creating the canyon allowed natural light within the spaces.

Summary: The master plan for the campus was conceived as a moving dragon, the symbol for power, strength and good luck. The linear campus follows the adjacent creek providing indoor gathering places at each node and connections across to the existing buildings. The entire campus has a level for parking and service beneath the first floor.

Summary: An industrial site near Love Field Airport with two existing buildings is redeveloped into creative multi-tenant office and flex space for a Dallas developer. Space is carved out of the larger buildings creating standard lease depths. A completely new destination image for the site is created.

Summary: An industrial site, near Southwest Airlines headquarters, is redeveloped by renovating the two existing buildings, adding a third building and visually connecting to create a small campus space.

Summary: The site is planned to provide twin medical office buildings west of Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Plano. Each building provides one level of private parking, below grade, for physicians and staff. The out parcels will be sold to retail, medical or financial users.

Summary: This limited street frontage site was designed placing a retail multi-tenant building fronting the busy street and office/showroom buildings on the rear of the site. All of the buildings are brick masonry construction.

Summary: Designed to be an integral part of the natural landscape, this facility will be a rental community of cottages nestled under the canopy of mature trees. The entire site is secured with limited access after hours. Each cottage is a four-plex composed of one and two bedroom units all with porches. Reserved parking is provided adjacent to each unit.

Summary : The existing campus was master planned for this college's growth through 2011. This plan has been generally implemented to date providing an exciting campus environment. Edwin Brantley Smith, as an associate at JPJ Architects, was responsible for the master plan design and documentation.

Summary : As an associate with JPJ Architects, Edwin Brantley Smith was the design / project manager for this master planning and design study for a private development for Exxon through 2035.

Summary : A land planning study near DFW airport combined multiple properties of different land owners to create a unified development.

Summary : This mixed use facility on corporate campus in Thousand Oaks California houses offices, central plant facilities, corporate dining facility and an underground conference center. The design was conceived as a cellular expansion with functions separated by a man-made canyon.

Summary: The world's largest private communications network controlled forma a single command site. It bridges the process power contained within HP's Information Processing Centers for the customer and provides a platform from which voice, data and video communications can be controlled worldwide.

Summary : This is a tilt-up concrete warehouse at Alliance Airport owned by Hillwood Development.

Summary: This office/warehouse project consists of 2 buildings, 115,600 GSF & 100,000 GSF respectively. The unique tilt-up concrete design allows significant covered open space at the main entrances into each section.

Mockingbird Depot Renovation - Dallas, Texas

6445 Cedar Springs Business Park - Dallas, Texas

Summary : This modern one story office / showroom is in close proximity of the Dallas Love Field Airport. The project is aimed for LEED Certification. 

Retail Center - Wichita Falls, Texas

Client: Cypress Equities

Area : 12,550 g.s.f.  

Summary : An existing restaurant located on a major retail intersection is converted into a modern retail center for Cypress Equities. 

Schematic Design

The scheme transforms the existing 157,529 gsf. shopping center, constructed in the 80's, into a modern, vibrant and upscale retail center capable of competing within the regional market.

This new 12,800 sf. retail center is currently under construction within this expanding area north of Dallas. Brick, limestone, steel and glass are the primary enclosure materials. 

Estimated completion: Fall 2016

This old 50's era warehouse is adapted to include a large staging center for configuring Cisco telecommunications data servers for the big mobile providers. This space is the administrative area associated with multiple customer service departments. The existing concrete and terrazzo floor was saved and polished.

The volume of the space is expressed with new skylights placed over each specific area. The clouds provide scale and carry led lighting for the space. The lighting is controlled by light sensors so the more natural light coming into the space the dimmer the artificial lights become.

The curving red cylinder punctuates the space and encloses the break room and restrooms core. The multiple vertical openings are filled with clear glass to help control noise. The black systems furniture is temporary and will eventually be replaced.

View inside the men's restroom. The vanity floats in front of the glass tile wall and custom stainless steel hand wash sinks were designed to minimize splashing and cleanup. The light shelf provides indirect lighting for the space.

Ceiling cloud detail. The steel column supported a second floor in a former use.

The interior of the space is always filled with natural light from above filtering through the existing structure, the new hvac ductwork and the ceiling clouds. A white noise system was installed to mitigate sound movement throughout the space.

This adaptive reuse interiors was once a dairy processing plant for Foremost Dairy. The new secure public entry lobby uses color changing led lighting behind frosted glass to accent an otherwise hidden stair. The existing concrete floors were polished throughout the facility.

The Marketing & Sales department on the second floor. All of the exposed concrete structure was sandblasted and linear skylights added.

The elliptical ceiling clouds unify the space and provide light source locations. The workstations reinforce the collaborative working environment.

The network operations center was designed to maximize user comfort, visibility and as a GDT services marketing tool. Designed in a reverse theater layout, each custom design workstation has a direct view of the display screens as they monitor multiple data platforms.

This space is designed to experience evolving technology. The space within a space concept increases customer anticipation and allows multiple electronic scenarios to appear similtaneously. All of the electronics within the space, including the multiple lighting scenes, may be controlled through mobile data telecom applications. "There's an app for that."

Client: Hattiesburg Convention Commision

Size: 68,550 GSF

Summary: The modern interior design of this traditional style convention center brings an urban feel to this mid size city. The exhibition hall, seven meeting rooms, four pre-function areas and state of the art conference room all overlook a two acre lake. The interior planning of the building allows for constant chances to evolve with age. 

This 1960's era one story masonry building will soon be transformed into a contemporary modern icon at the old Trinity River and Mockingbird Lane in Dallas, Texas.

Summary: This limestone clad residence was one of the first true contemporary designs in University Park.

Completed in 2003, this home has 4 bedrooms, 5 baths, 2 half baths, media/game room, 3 car garage with a custom pool, deck and outdoor grill area.

Location: Taylor Ranch, Fort Davis, Texas

Client: Private

Size: 2,000 gsf

Summary: This small private weekend residence, designed for a chef, sits atop a large rock formation with endless views in all directions. The design intent was to become a part of the site using color and transparency. The interior has 2 bedrooms, a large gourmet kitchen, and a large living room with bar. All indoor spaces have large outdoor decks cantilevered off the cliff sides with a special grill and oven adjacent to the kitchen.

East Elevation. The special grill and oven are on a cantilevered deck directly adjacent to the kitchen. The upper level is a covered outdoor entertainment area and sleeping porch. The garage is on the far left down the hill.

North Elevation.  This view shows the transparency and openness of the house. Exterior materials are zinc metal panels which will weather over time to the color of the surrounding rock formations.

South Elevation. This is the entry side of the house as approached from the remote garage. The larger solid elements are poured in place concrete containing the master bath and guest bath. The large windows have concealed rolling shutters which may be closed to protect the openings during storms or when the resident is away.

This residence was originally built in the late 1800’s for a wealthy merchant in Fort Davis. It burned in 2011 leaving only the stone bearing walls and the steel framed windows. Originally a variety of individual rooms the renovation transformed the residence into a boutique style gathering place for the families of the owners.
